Thursday Thoughts-

If someone claims to have faith but has no deeds, it does them no good. Faith is the root, good works are the fruits.

James 2:14

Why do you think it’s important that we do good deeds?

The day’s headlines provide you with many troubles and thoughts of problems. Rarely do we see a clear solution without a handful of strings attached to other things which create an additional web.

To guide others through these troubles and problems, a leader needs to earn the right by displaying and doing several things.

Empathy is something we need in the world. It is something we need to help our young children develop. However, if someone only empathizes with us and nothing else, we will find ourselves in the same place. Empathy provides a listening ear and calms us for the moment but provides us with no movement forward in our journey—a faith without the deeds we need.

Leaders can model for us the authority they have and the solutions to the problems. We believe they understand our experiences and are working to guide us in the right direction. It is the love and trust we need to have the right to guide us. When we have faith, we can see good works, and trust with all our hearts together—we will see the fruits of the solutions to the problems we face.

The problems we face right now have many layers. Poverty is not new. Violence is not new. Racism is not new. Respect is not new. Students failing is not new. You can add to the list and my response will be, it is not new only additional layers to an original problem not solved.

The issues we face have been around for a very long time; however they are still here, why? There are many reasons they remain.

  • Politics get in the way of making corrections
  • When you throw money at a problem, more problems are created
  • Some do not want to see the problems corrected, as they can continue to profit from their existence
  • Dealing with an issue that is not the root of the problem

Be the solution is something I have stated for decades. It is what we strive for daily. The solutions begin with knowing we can achieve solutions.
