As I grew, I knew Martin Luther King, Jr was a leader I admired. His words captured my heart, and mind in the way I wanted the world to be. I did not hear him in person giving a speech but instead was only able to read and watch clips on television and videos. These planted deep seeds in my heart to share with others as I became a teacher and leader myself.
I have many of his quotes I cherish, “I have a dream,” which I have used many times—explaining to students how it is the content of your character which matters.
“Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a constant attitude.”
“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”
“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. knew his path, passion, and purpose. His words continue to echo through our land, and I encourage everyone to listen to the speeches, read the quotes and understand what he accomplished. We have come a long way and need to, in his words-“continue to move.”
Let’s continue moving forward and understand the words he provided. Celebrate his life today by learning more about it, sharing his story, and working to continue his dream of All of us working together. We have made many gains, and we should be proud.
