I was a toddler in 1969, but Paul McCartney wrote one of the most impactful songs for many generations. We can learn so much from the lyrics of songs. Let it be is one of the famous Beatle songs. In the song, you will hear the phrase, “Whisper words of wisdom.”

It begins with, “When I find myself in times of trouble,” “Mother Mary comes to me.” I have always thought it was talking about the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. However, after researching, Paul’s mother was also named Mary, and she died when he was a young child. In interviews, Paul revealed he thought of his mother when he wrote the song.

There was violence in Ireland and wars in Vietnam and worldwide during 1969 when Paul was writing the song. Let it be was speaking to these events. Let it allow us to find comfort and not think about the sad things or what we cannot control. Paul was trying to send also a message, “Although they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see. There will be an answer– Let it be.”

It is not 1969, but we have wars worldwide, and we find ourselves in trouble. Whisper words of wisdom to those you love, serve and value. We continue to “let it be.” There will be an answer for this vision for peace and joining John Lennon to imagine a more peaceful world.
