School is approaching fast, and as parents, we have a crucial role to play in preparing our children for this new phase of their lives. In this series, I want to share with you how my Two Rules Philosophy can greatly benefit your children. The first component of these rules focuses on teaching our children the most important skill they’ll need for life—self-regulation.
Self-regulation is the ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in various situations. It empowers children to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience. To assist with this, I highly recommend books by Sean Covey for teenagers and elementary students. For us adults, we can draw wisdom from Stephen Covey’s book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”
In my video, I discuss four key areas that are essential for helping children recognize when they need to take care of themselves: the Heart, Mind, Body, and Soul. These aspects encompass the holistic well-being of a child. Kudos to my daughter, who is a wonderful parent and understands how to instill this awareness in her own children.
When children are not acting like themselves, it’s a sign that they might be out of balance. In those moments, they need to redirect themselves to regain their equilibrium. Simple strategies such as taking a nap, drinking water, calming down, having a snack, or taking a bath can make a significant difference. Each child may respond differently, so it’s essential to explore what works best for your child’s unique needs.
As the school year begins, we’ll delve deeper into specific techniques children can use in various settings, such as the classroom or on the bus, to help calm themselves and regain control when needed. These techniques will empower them to cope with the challenges they might encounter during their school days.
Stay tuned for the next episode as we unravel valuable insights to help your children thrive in their academic journey and beyond. Let’s work together to equip them with the tools they need for a fulfilling and successful life. Remember, it all starts with the foundation of self-regulation. See you in the next video!
