Do we hold on?

We can cling to behaviors, routines, and perceptions that used to work but no longer fit our circumstances. Old habits are hard to break, and teaching an old dog new tricks, are those just sayings, or are they true?

Over the past year, people have said, “I can’t wait for life to get back to normal.” However, I am not sure we have a clear definition of what normal is these days.

Our world faced a global pandemic, but that does not seem to be all we faced. Multiple layers of changes occurred during this time frame, and recovering from all of this, well, I hate to be the one to say it, but it is true, normal in the way many may describe it, is not coming back.

Societal changes are the fuel to fire the engines of government, communities, and education. If you trace the history, society is the driving force behind all the significant changes in our world. How does this happen? One can say it is the powers in control politically or those with enough money to fuel those voices with the words they want to see the changes they need. This is why you often hear me say, “Education is something we do with children, not to them.” We do not want to create generations of leaders with one focus of thought but can think independently to develop, innovate and design better than before. All of the things that are right today may not be the behaviors, routines, procedures, or solutions to fit in the puzzle of circumstances for tomorrow.

Is there more than one way to solve a problem? Yes, but usually, one way is the best. However, we will not know unless we have the opportunity to try.
